Ohio’s Reese wins Phoenix Bass Fishing League event on Detroit River

Albion’s Miller Claims Strike King Co-Angler Division Victory

TRENTON, Michigan (August 29, 2022) – Boater Jeremy Reese from Powell, Ohiocaught five bass on Saturday weighing 26 pounds and 6 ounces, to win the MLF Phoenix Bass Fishing League Presented by TH Marine on the Detroit River . The tournament was the third regular season event for the Michigan Division of the Bass Fishing League. Reese won $4,820 for his victory.

“I did a pretty long run in Lake Erie and had a few different areas, and just alternated around them,” Reese said. “There was another angler up there, an absolute hammerhead, and we shared the same things. We worked together, shot and shared very well.

The tournament got off to a good start for Reese as he brought in some quality fish shortly after take off on Saturday.

“Saturday was a morning bite for me,” Reese said. “I had all the fish I weighed before 10 a.m., fishing rock piles 15 to 29 feet deep.

“I’ve worked extensively with Venture Lures,” Reese added. “I tested and designed baits with them, and used a Venture Lures Dropper Worm Green Pumpkin this week.”

Reese and David Gloden of Ionia, Mich., both caught a bass weighing 5 pounds, 11 ounces in the Boater Division tied for the Berkley Big Bass of the Day award. Each fisher received $322.

Rob Miller of Albion, Mich., won the Strike King Co-angler Division and $2,571 on Saturday after catching five bass weighing 22 pounds, 1 ounce.

Miller also caught the largest bass in the Co-angler division, a fish weighing 5 pounds and 13 ounces. The catch earned him the Berkley Big Bass Co-angler award of $322.

The region’s top 45 boaters and co-anglers based on points standings, along with the five winners of each qualifying event, will be entered into the Bass Fishing League Regional Championship Oct. 13-15 on the Mississippi River in La Lacrosse, Wis. . Boaters will compete for a prize of $60,000, including a new Phoenix 819 Pro with a 200 horsepower Mercury outboard and $10,000, while fellow anglers will fish for a new Phoenix 819 Pro with a Mercury outboard of 200 horsepower.

The 2022 Phoenix Bass Fishing League presented by TH Marine is a 24-division circuit dedicated to weekend anglers, with 128 tournaments throughout the season, five qualifying events in each division. The top 45 Strike King boaters and co-fishermen in each division, along with the five winners of the qualifying events, will advance to one of six regional championships where they compete to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the oldest championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Phoenix Bass Fishing League All-American.

The top 45 Strike King boaters and co-fishermen as well as tournament winners from each division of the Phoenix Bass Fishing League will also gain priority entry into the MLF Toyota Series, the path to the MLF Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit and ultimately the MLF Bass Pro Tour.
