Lake Ozark’s McFarland wins Phoenix Bass Fishing League event on Table Rock Lake

Saint Peters’ Huber leads the Strike King Co-Angler division

KIMBERLING CITY, Missouri (May 9, 2022) – Boater Cole McFarland of Lake Ozark, Missouricaught five bass on Saturday weighing 16 pounds, 6 ounces, to win the MLF Phoenix Bass Fishing League Presented by TH Marine on Table Rock Lake. The tournament was the third event in the Ozark Division of the Bass Fishing League. McFarland won $8,000 for her win.

“We had a pretty nasty fog delay, and I was the last boat out,” McFarland said. “I started by turning over bushes, and it didn’t work. I practiced last Sunday and had them pretty shallow, but the lake was 10 feet higher (during the tournament).

McFarland said he changed his approach to searching for the smallmouth by fishing flat and catching a few bass, then targeting the docks with a 5/16 ounce Crock-O-Gator shakehead rig. He said he stayed close to the Kimberling City area for the duration of the tournament.

“Honestly, the head-shaking platform was the bulk of it,” McFarland said. “I caught my biggest and one of my best that way and then caught a 3-pounder knocking over a bush later in the day. Then, with about 10 minutes left until the weigh-in, I eliminated my smallest little mouth with a 2½-pounder dragging her head shaking on a point.

McFarland said he shot twice during the day and his weigh bag consisted of four large mouths and one large small mouth.

“It’s just surreal,” McFarland said. “That feeling hasn’t gone away yet. It’s just great to win such a well organized event.
