LA CROSSE, Wis. (September 27, 2022) – The Phoenix Bass Fishing League Presented by TH Marine’s Hoosier, Illini, Michigan and the Okie Divisions will wrap up their 2022 season next month in La Crosse, Wisconsin, October 13-15, with the Phoenix Bass Fishing League Regional presented by TH Marine at the Mississippi River – La Crosse.

Organized by Explore La Crosse, the three-day event will feature the top 45 boaters and co-anglers as well as tournament winners in all four divisions, battling it out for a top prize of $60,000, including a Phoenix boat 819 Pro bass with a 200- Mercury outboard and $10,000, plus lucrative emergency bonuses, including up to an additional $7,000 in Phoenix MLF bonuses. Strike King co-fishermen will compete for a top prize of $50,000, including a Phoenix 819 Pro bass boat with a 200 horsepower Mercury outboard. Winners will be determined by heaviest three-day catch.

The highest ranked boater in each division will also receive a bonus of $1,000 and the highest ranked co-angler in each division will receive a bonus of $500.

local professional Matt Stefan from Junction City, Wisconsinsaid the Mighty Miss was gearing up for a fantastic event.

“We’ve had very cold weather, with a frost warning the last two nights and highs only in the mid-50s, which will ignite the sting,” Stefan said. “By mid-October the shad will have started their migration in the backwaters with deep holes, ranging from 8 to 25 feet of water, and the big mouth will follow, so depth will be key.

“They’ll still be caught relatively shallow, probably in 2 to 6 feet of water, but those deep holes will attract shad and have bass around them, so areas like the Black River are going to be a major player in that. event. “

Stefan said he expects the smallmouth to be equally well settled, whether on wing barrages or in general power outage areas where the shad will also be schooling.

“There will be a lot of 14-pound sacks, but I think an angler who can consistently catch 16 pounds a day will have a chance of winning the event,” Stefan continued. “I expect to see various baits including swimbaits, big box baits, spinnerbaits, swim jigs and crankbaits. The Berkley Choppo and the Dirty Jigs Swim Jig should also be big players.

Anglers will take off daily at 7:00 a.m. CT from Veterans Freedom Park in La Crosse. Weigh-ins will also take place at the park and begin at 3 p.m. Fans are invited to attend the event or follow the action online via the “MLF Live” weigh-in broadcasts on MajorLeagueFishing.com.
