Denver’s Hamrick Bests Field at the Phoenix Bass Fishing League event on Kerr Lake

Virginia’s Rock Wins Strike King Co-Angler Division

HENDERSON, NC (May 16, 2022) – Boater Scott Hamrick from Denver, North Carolinacaught five bass on Sunday weighing 19 pounds, 8 ounces, to win the MLF Phoenix Bass Fishing League presented by TH Marine on Kerr Lake . The tournament, hosted by the Vance County Tourism Development Authority, was the fourth event of the season for the Bass Fishing League’s Shenandoah Division. Hamrick earned $6,415 for his win.

“I fished Kerr on Saturday and finished fourth in the North Carolina BFL Division event, and I had found something and grabbed it and I knew I could probably catch them on Sunday” , said Hamrick. “I was fishing a jig Shooter Lures and caught over 20 keeper.

“It started off a little slow, but I had a limit after about an hour,” added Hamrick. “I knew I had a good one in the box, and I thought if I could get another big one in the box, I would have a good chance of winning.

“I figured it would take 16 or 17 pounds to win,” Hamrick added. “Once I hit 15 pounds and caught the Berkley Big Bass 5-3 for the day, I knew it was pretty much over.”

Hamrick notched 41 top-10 finishes and five career victories in the MLF Phoenix Bass Fishing League competition, and Sunday’s victory was his second win on Kerr Lake.

“I won a lot of big tournaments there, but the BFL ground is the best of the best on Kerr Lake, so that’s pretty cool,” Hamrick said.
